Governor, State of Missouri

Re:  Florissant Rotary Club

Governor Nixon,

I have learned about the appeal of the Florissant Rotary Club to retain its operation of the Florissant license office, and I hope you will grant the appeal.

You are well known, along with President Obama, for your encouragement of volunteer service in order for citizens to support their local communities, and I am personally aware that the Florissant Rotary Club has been a strong organization dedicated to community service for more than 50 years.  Therefore, a discontinuation of the club’s operation of the license office without cause will be seen as a lack of support for community service organizations.

The Florissant Rotary Club is one of 34,000 Rotary clubs around the world, and it has always been a unique and effective club in its support of community projects.  When naming outstanding Rotary clubs in the State of Missouri, the Florissant club will always be included as one of the best clubs, and the loss of the license office will diminish its ability to serve its community in such an exceptional manner.

Rotary International is one of the spearheading partners, along with WHO, UNICEF, and CDC, in the eradication of polio, and together we have reduced the number of polio cases from 500,000 in 1979 to less than 300 cases last year.  We truly are This Close to the end of polio, and we rely on our Rotary clubs around the world to support the effort.   The Florissant Rotary Club was one of the strongest supporters of the PolioPlus program when it started in the 1980s, and it is important that the most effective clubs like Florissant remain strong and vibrant in our worldwide projects.

I don’t know all of the facts involved in selecting the operation of the Florissant license office, but I do ask that you think about the importance of community service organizations in our state as you consider the appeal.  This is an opportunity for you to show your support for volunteer service, and I hope you will recognize the importance of your decision to the volunteer sector of our state.

Best regards,

Ray Klinginsmith
